Melkonna EE Samayam — 'This Time of Awakening' — was first published on Rakshasa Ugadi, 12 April 1975, dedicated to the great Telugu poet Sri Sri. Publication number 11 of Sahithi Bandhu Brindam, Hanamkonda. Reprinted January 2026. The collection opens with Kraanti Roopam, a prose-poetry preface in which Ranga Rao describes the free verse creative process from the inside: how some poems arrive unannounced, how others are deferred, and why no moment of poetic creation can be fixed or repeated. Published at four rupees, this slim volume from Warangal carries the urgency of a poet who is certain that free verse is the only honest form for its age. The dedication to Sri Sri signals Ranga Rao's literary lineage.
